Frequently Asked Questions
What you need to know...
Hair Candy Salon is a full service hair care and extension (weaving) salon. I only do natural looking extensions; therefore, a consultation is required prior to your service. The following are some frequently asked questions (FAQ’s) and answer to help you along your hair extension journey. If you have a question that is not included, please e-mail me at haircandybytracey@hotmail.com and I will answer you as soon as possible.

| Q: | What extension methods do you recommend for my hair? |
| A: | This is a broad question that can only be answered properly during your initial consultation. During the consultation, I will discuss with you the desired outcome; i.e., to add length and/or volume to your natural hair; to rest your natural hair and grow out a chemical; to add highlights; to cover balding; etc. Once this has been answered, we will then discuss the texture of your hair and the methods that are right for you and your lifestyle. The length of our natural hair is also a factor in determining the extension method used to produce the desired outcome. There are a variety of hair extension methods available now for all hair types. Visit www.hairextensionguide.com for a list and definitions of extension techniques. |
| Q: | What technique(s) do you do at Hair Candy Salon? |
| A: | I currently offer the following extension services: skin wefts, strand-by-strand (fusion) and strand-by-strand linking, cold bonding, track weaving (sewn-in), net weaving, interlocking weave (no braiding or glue), FlatTracs "aka" Malaysian weaving (no braids or glue). Visit the Ultratress, UltraStrands, and UltraLinks pages on this site for more extention options. |
| Q: | What type of hair should I purchase? |
| A: | Now this is tricky, so before I answer what type of hair, I must first explain the differences in the hair on the market. Your neighborhood beauty supply store as well as some sites on the web, offer a wide range of hair and the majority of them say that they are 100 percent human hair. However, through much research and trial and error, I have learned that this is often far from the truth. You have probably experienced hair that you thought was “good hair" dry, mat, and tangle after 1 week. A general rule for me is that if you spend less than $50, you probably don’t have a good product. However, this does not mean that expensive hair is “good” hair. You must do your research and ask a lot of questions. The cheaper product may be fine initially; however, you can expect problems after the first shampoo. If you plan to wear your extensions from 4 weeks to 3 months at a time, then it is worth it foryou to purchase a quality product. By quality I mean, it is 100 percent remy (cuticle) hair.Hair Candy Salon's featured line of hair is Virgin Remy Hair. Quality Indian Remy hair is normally sold by the ounce and can last from 6 months to 1 year if maintained properly. You can expect to pay at least $300 or morefor a full head (8 oz) for the hair only. If you do the math, this is a much better investment for long term use. This hair will last you from 6 month to 1 year with proper care. If you are currently spending between $35 to $50 abag for chinesehair that has to bethrown away after 3 weeks, if you dothis for 1 year, you will have spent over $800 for hair with less than perfect results. So, it makes since to purchase the quality hair. And once you try this hair, you will not want to wear anything else. The results are beautiful. |
| Q: | What if my budget won't allow me to purchase virgin Indian remy hair? |
| A: | Currently, my hair ofchoice from the localbeauty supply store is the Bobbi Boss Virgin Indian Remy Yaki, the BOHYMELine,Outre NaturalRemy Yaki. This hair performs well and is a good blend forrelaxed hair.MyEuropean hair of choicecan be found onthe Ultrass Tress sites. I also, have vendors that I use to order hair for myEuropean clients that performs well. |
| Q: | How long will it take to get my extensions done? |
| A: | The time varies by the procedure used.Generally, I will take from 2to6 hours. |
| Q: | Is it okay to get my relaxer and my extension on the same day? |
| A: | It is okay, if your hair is properly conditioned and the correct amount of tension is applied to your braids or extension points. If your hair is weak than you may not be a good candidate for extensions and your hair issues should be addressed prior to getting extension services.Iuse a moisturizing relaxer and conditioners toprotect yourhair. |
| Q: | Will I be able to shampoo my extensions? |
| A: | Absolutely. However, you must be careful with the products used on your extension hair. I use a product especially formulated for extensions. Your average shampoo is normally too harsh and can cause your extension hair to dry; therefore, resulting in matting and tangling. Some techniques require you waiting at least 24 to 48 hours after the application to shampoo. |
| Q: | Is there a fee for the initial consultation? |
| A: | The personal consultation fee is $50 and this amount goes toward the completion of your service. If you like, you may email me at haircandybytracey@hotmail.com pictures of your hair (front, back, top, and both sides) and I will give you a brief email consultation. If the pictures are clear enough for me to assess your hair, the personal consultation may be waived and upon receiving your deposit via paypal, we can go ahead and book your extension service appointment. |
| Q: | How much will my extension service cost? |
| A: | Extension services range from $200 and up. A complete qoute, including the cost of hair will be provided during your consultation and/or prior to booking your appointment online. |
| Q: | Will I be able to bring my own hair for extension service. |
| A: | Yes, however, Hair Candy Salon will do it's best to provide the best service possible for you. We have done the research to provide the best hair on the market at an affordable price, so there will be no need for you to bring anything for your extension service. Generally, I only order virgin Indian remy hair. If you choose to purchase hair over the counter, than you will need to bring this with you to your appointment. |
| Q: | What should I do to my hair prior to my appointment. |
| A: | Nothing. The prices and services are explained on this site. If you choose to do any of those thingsyourself or by someone other thanHair Candy Salon, that are included within the service, the price will not change. |
